About Craft Victoria
The Craft Victoria mission
Our mission is to bring together a vibrant and sustainable contemporary craft and design community in Victoria and nationally, which represents, promotes and celebrates all craft practitioners.

Vision
To be recognised as the voice of craft.

Craft Victoria's history
The Crafts Council of Victoria was established in 1970 and grew out of a world wide interest in the crafts. In Australia it was a mixture of the counter culture and high art, as espoused by teachers, environmentalists and a wide range of people.

Over the past 40 years it has shifted from an East meets West scenario to a focus on the individual in society. The Crafts Council of Victoria was one of the founding tenants of the Meat Market Craft Centre, then moved to Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, and is now part of the Flinders Lane craft and design precinct.
