Emma Davies : Morphed |

19 June – 25 July Emma Davies presents a new body of figurative work inspired by the 2007 South Project Gathering. Using her signature materials, polypropylene netting and packaging, renowned artist and designer Emma Davies presents a new body of work inspired by her recent visit to Johannesburg. In October 2007 Davies participated in the South Project’s Johannesburg Gathering, a crosscultural event designed to facilitate exchange between artists from Australia and South Africa. Davies’ time in South Africa left an indelible impression: the visual intoxication of busy streets, road-side performances, and the bustling Johannesburg market form the basis of the work in Morphed. Davies’ foray into figuration presents a new world where the natural and unnatural fuse, and the mysterious and the bizarre become common. Morphed is part of 2009 State of Design Festival’s public and cultural program, Design for Everyone. Opening Thursday 18 June, 6-8pm. Artist talk 5:30pm. Emma was featured on ABC's Sunday Arts Program on Sunday 21 June. The program will be available to watch here shortly or you can watch Sunday Arts on iView.
