:acute (from grid-garment series) by Tobi Clark

:acute = 3rd iteration of grid-garment series by Tobi Clark
1 December 2009 – 1 March 2010
Sofitel Melbourne On Collins : Lobby, Level 1, 25 Collins Street, Melbourne VIC 3000

In 2008, Tobi Clark was the recipient of The Sofitel Melbourne Exhibition in a Public Space Award as part of Fresh! and :acute is the resulting exhibition.

:acute is an experiment in the relationship between fashion and installation. Deliberately avoiding signs of the human body, :acute transforms garments into living sculptures via a self-contained, confused, domestically fantastical scenario. Reflections of this scenario are repeated and collapsed into the mirrored setting that surrounds it. The result is a complicated clash of visual perceptions that unhinges an audiences’ experience of clothing.

Exhibition managed by Global Art Projects, Consulting Curator to Sofitel Melbourne On Collins.

2008 Fresh! winner Ka Ho Li

2008 Fresh!
The 2008 major prize winner was Ka Ho Li, a Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) student from RMIT University for his White Widow Jewellery Collection constructed with Teflon Tape, a product commonly used in plumbing. The collection was inspired by Ka Ho's mother, her love for his father and her suffering and grief over his death.

Post Fresh! Ka Ho has continued to expand his White Widow collection and is designing two other jewellery collections. He also plans to launch a T-shirt line in Thailand and Melbourne.
